“Human created things, have never been more important to both; passionately embrace, and ravenously encourage more of, at every possible opportunity. This technological (largely artificial), future being stacked upon us is chipping away at much of the fabric that make us human. It appears to be all encompassing and the speed at which this is occurring is in arguably accelerating. The act of creating is one way we can counter this out of control ‘progress’

Abundance would typically be thought of as a beautiful thing to possess. I find, that in my work, scarcity is more often the catalyst that results in a beautiful piece.

Working from that instinct. I try to “strip away” as many attributes/features that the mind habitually wants to add to the initial design thought/idea, for a piece. Less becomes more.

This is so, because the conditioned mind wants to continually “add” to improve things, resulting in bulk and complexity. I focus on the minus, not the addition, in my processes, thus arriving with an end creation that is...what I hope to be, both simple and sublime in its visual delivery, and functional effect.

It is not lost on me that this outlook tends to be a great recipe for modelling ones overall life with.  That is, if your goal is; the the lessening of chaos, excesses, background noises, and any other negative thing you can point your finger at.”

After having worked under the direction of both a local and Toronto based cabinetmaker, wood and furniture maker, I moved back home to Monks Head, Antigonish, N.S. with my family. Four years thereafter, I built my own studio and began to dream, design, and build.
